Regional renewable capacity has moved from pilot projects to procurement. The constraint is no longer the technology — it is grid readiness, land tenure and bankability.
Where the opportunity is concentrated
Solar irradiance and wind resource across much of the region are strong enough that generation cost is rarely the deciding factor. What decides projects is whether the offtake is credible and whether the connection can be delivered on the same timeline as the plant.
- Grid integration — connection studies are routinely started too late.
- Land and permitting — tenure questions surface after financial close more often than they should.
- Offtake structure — a tariff without a creditworthy counterparty does not finance.
Practical sequencing
Projects that reach financial close tend to run the grid study, the land due diligence and the offtake negotiation in parallel from month one, rather than in sequence. The cost of that parallelism is small next to the cost of a twelve-month delay.
